Fed-up folk say: no bail

Residents of Gala in Bulwer, who are fed up with crime, will protest to oppose bail for a mother and son accused of murdering the head of the family.

Thembi Mbanjwa, her son Khayalethu and four others will appear in court again today for the murder of Sikukayi Mbanjwa, 52, last week.

It is alleged that Mbanjwa, 42, of the southern KwaZulu-Natal town of Bulwer, hired six men to kill her truck driver husband who died in a hail of bullets.

The community has vowed not to sit back while criminals rule.

Police arrested Thembi and Khayalethu Mbanjwa, 23, Kwazi Memela, 33, Sizwe Memela, 28, Lindelani Mkhulisi, 29, and Sabelo Nzimade, 32.

They appeared in court briefly yesterday and the case was remanded to today.

Local councillor Dumile Ncamu said the incident has traumatised the community.

"We have never seen such a thing before, Ncamu said. "But the swift arrests mean police are committed to protecting the vulnerable and defend the weak."

He said many residents would protest to make sure that the suspects do not get bail.
