The Duke of Edinburgh Cup, one of the most prestigious golf events globally, tees off at different venues around the country from this month to June.

The competition, won by a South African amateur golfer Daniel Gouws last year, starts at the Witbank Golf Course on April 17.

It moves to East London the following day, then KwaZulu-Natal on May 5, at White River in Mpumalanga on May 9, with the regional winners playing in a final shootout at Pecanwood Golf Estate on June 12.

The winner will play on three of the world's most prestigious courses - Royal Ascot Golf Club, Wentworth Golf Club, and the Queen's private golf course in England - with all expenses paid for.

The winner of the South African leg is flown to the UK, along with fellow finalists from around the world, to play in the Individual World Final and World Pairs Competition at The Berkshire and Wentworth, respectively.

The director of marketing for Tsogo Sun Gaming, Noeleen Bruton, said the events were hosted by each of the group's five casinos.

"We invite both the individual and corporate golfing community to stand a chance to be the person to represent South Africa at the 2008 challenge."
