Jose Henrique de Carvalho was punished by an officiating commission after he booked a player twice without realising it.
The incident happened in Corinthians' 2-0 victory over Guaratingueta in the Sao Paulo state championship on Sunday.
Carvalho showed a yellow card to Guaratingueta midfielder Magal for a hard foul in the 10th minute, then another in the 34th for another hard tackle.
"I became aware of the mistake at half-time," Carvalho told local media. "I jotted down the wrong number. It's a shame. I want to apologise to Corinthians."
Corinthians' players and coaches complained, but Carvalho said it was too late to reverse his decision and eject Magal.
A linesman who briefly danced and showed his tongue to fans in Santos' 3-2 win over Noroeste was also suspended for 15 days on Monday, but the officiating commission said he was punished for failing to raise his flag to communicate with the referee during a play, not because of his sideline antics.
The Palmeiras-Bragantino match also was marred by controversial officiating on Sunday.
Referee Paulo Cesar Oliveira issued 13 yellow cards and ejected three players in Palmeiras' 5-2 victory in Braganca Paulista. One of those red-carded was Palmeiras' veteran goalkeeper Marcos, who kicked an opponent on the ground after receiving a blow to the chest in a ball dispute. - Sapa-AP
