Leonard Chuene, Athletics South Africa (ASA) president, believes the IAAF coaching course, currently under way in Tshwane, will improve the standard of coaching in Africa.

The course, which started on Monday and ends tomorrow, is being conducted by leading lecturers from the English-speaking countries on the continent to prepare coaches for the new system of the world governing body.

The IAAF moved the course from Kenya to South Africa because of the post-election unrest in the east African country.

The course, which will focus on material of the new IAAF five-level Coaches Education and Certification System, is conducted by senior education manager in the IAAF member services department Peter Thompson and the federation's director in Nairobi John Velzian. - Mcelwa Nchabeleng
