Simon "Terror" Sebapu, South African Football Association national executive committee member, has applauded the City of Johannesburg for embarking on a project to green the open sports grounds in the southern areas of the municipality.

"We welcome the initiative by the City of Johannesburg, it will help us a lot in terms of the growth of the sport," said Sebapu, who is representing Gauteng on the executive committee.

This came after Amos Masondo, executive mayor of Johannesburg, announced that the municipality has started with a project to green all the sports fields in the south.

Sebapu said: "Our clubs will also save a lot because some hire minibuses to play in the neighbouring suburbs where they have to pay for the use of the grounds with grass."

Mike Ntombela, Senaoane Gunners' head coach and marketing manager, said: "We are impressed by the efforts of the City of Johannesburg, this augurs well for the growth of football in the black residential areas."
