Ernst Middendorp, Kaizer Chiefs' coach, is adamant Amakhosi will be one of the top teams on the Castle Premiership log when the teams go into the Christmas recess.

"My target is to finish within the top four bracket and I have confidence in the players that they will be able to achieve this mission," Middendorp said.

"We are going to take each game as it comes and I will not put pressure on my players to perform miracles, though. But I'm happy that we managed to win today, considering that we are fresh from a defeat in the Telkom Knockout Cup [1-2 against Silver Stars]."

Chiefs' German coach was speaking to Sowetan after their deserved 3-1 win over a somewhat disjointed Black Leopards in a Castle Premiership match played in front of a good crowd at Thohoyandou Stadium on Saturday night.

Leopards' assistant coach Power Matloga admitted they lost against a good team.

"But it is not yet over for Black Leopards," he said. "We are going back to the drawing board and are determined to save face in our next match. We conceded silly goals against Chiefs and we can't win matches if we don't take our chances."

Like Chiefs, Lidoda Duvha went into the match wounded after their 1-3 defeat to Mamelodi Sundowns in Atteridgeville last weekend.

Chiefs started Saturday's match on the attack, terrorising the hosts' rearguard. Shaun Bartlett opened the scoring for the visitors in the 15th minute after a good pass from Rotson Kilambe.

Patrick Mayo added the second goal for Chiefs in the 23rd minute to make the half-time score 2-0 for Amakhosi.

Leopards reduced the arrears through Malawian international Robert Nga'mbi in the 73rd minute. But substitute David Radebe put the match beyond Leopards' reach when he scored the third goal in the 87th minute.

Chiefs now have 14 points from 10 matches, while Leopards are still in the relegation zone with nine points from the same number of outings.
