THE Department of Sports and Recreation brought razzmatazz to Cape Town as it wrapped up its week-long budget speech sessions with a party on Saturday.

The ministry hosted a gala dinner at Pigali Restaurant in Sea Point, followed by a cash bar after-party at Trinity. The nightclub, situated in Sea Point, is Cape Town's most luxurious night spot.

The event attracted leading sports personalities and other distinguished guests.

Sports and Recreation Minister Fikile Mbalula, who attended with his wife Nozuko, cut a dignified presence at the after-party.

The couple, who recently endured an embarrassing sex scandal - linking Mbalula to an illicit sexual liaison with a 27-year-old model - looked happy together.

Announcing the after-party, Mbalula told guests they were going to pay for their own booze, not that the cash bar deterred guests.

Expensive whiskeys and champagne were the order of the day as guests danced the night away.

Young model-like girls in short dresses danced seductively, with some throwing themselves at several married men, who seemed to enjoy the attention.

Also noticeably present at the party was celebrity radio and television sports presenter Robert Marawa, who was caressing and French-kissing a model known only as Rosey.

Marawa yesterday told Sowetan: "Rosey is just a friend. We were kissing as friends and nothing more. One of Rosey's friends was celebrating her birthday, that's why I was there."

Marawa, who was supposed to be the programme director, was replaced by Kaya FM sportscaster Sotho Leakoe.

Married and retired cricketer Makhaya Ntini also did not hold back as he danced the night away and blew kisses at women.
