Limpopo fashion entrepreneur Sipho Tleane died on Sunday after a short illness.

The promising 35-year-old designer was based in Limpopo and made a splash when he showcased his work for the first time at fashion guru David Tlale's fashion show on April 30.

Family spokesman Moses Tleane said they were shocked by his brother's sudden death.

"I was not around when Sipho passed on.

"He had been sick for a week and took his last breath at our mother's house," said Moses.

A shocked Tlale remarked: "I am honestly traumatised by the sudden death of such a talented young designer.

"I recently saw him in Polokwane and now hearing that he has suddenly passed on hurts.

"As human beings we are selfish and wish we could keep such amazing people longer, but I'm happy to have been able to experience what he had to offer the industry.

"My condolences to his family and the fashion industry in Limpopo."

Limpopo arts and culture MEC's spokesman Moloko Moloto said that the department had hosted Tleane to impart his skills and business acumen to young fashion designers in the province.

Moloto added that Tleane was one of the most talented, dedicated and driven products of Tlale's mentoring.

Tleane actually won a designer's award from Tlale.

He was also the creator of #100MenInSuits, a concept that encouraged men to dress stylishly.

Tleane employed four budding designers on his project.

His memorial service will be held on Thursday at 2pm and the venue is yet to be announced. But it was confirmed that he will be laid to rest in Seshego, Limpopo, on Saturday.
