The elimination of Keegan Martin from Idols SA sent shock waves on Sunday night.

One of the hot favourites in the Mzansi Magic reality singing contest, Martin was sent packing in the top seven stage. Speaking yesterday, Martin said he had prepared for any eventuality while he gave his best.

He said he was "excited" when his name was called out.

"I know it contradicts the situation, but I felt fulfilled. I felt I had found that place where I was reaching my dream. I was also happy for Noma," Martin said.

He said his exit meant another bigger door would be opening.

"Idols has changed my life. They have given me a chance and a boost to reach my dreams. I've learnt discipline and to remain humble in the midst of love from people. I will stay determined and hungry," he said.

Martin said he had been inundated with messages of support since his sacking.

"I've received love from so many people, some sent videos of their children crying. This is really the beginning. I'm staying in the entertainment industry because this is confirmation that it's something I should be doing."

He said there was nothing he could have done differently.

"Every performance and song selection was meant to be. Everything happens for a reason."

He cited his rendition of Luther Vandross's theImpossible Dreamas defining.

"It was me speaking to people to reach for their dreams. It was inspiring, phenomenal and special."

Martin said he was looking forward to spending time with his family in Roodepoort and indulging in his mother's cooking.

As for the future, Martin said he would be working closely with booking agents to keep performing. He wouldn't settle on one contestant when asked who he supported in the Idols race.

"I'm backing everyone because every single one of them have something special, a winning quality. I see a winner in each of them," he said.
