After winning the first season of Top Actor‚ landing a hosting gig on BET Buzz and starring in the film The Other Side alongside Brad James and Erica Hubbard‚ Altovise Lawrence has now joined the cast of
The 24-year old University of the Witwatersrand dramatic arts graduate plays the character of Chantal‚ a coloured woman‚ who’s pulled apart by her lying love interest‚ Stokkies.
“I have been following Scandal! for the past four years. Their storytelling and the quality of their acting made me want to be part of the show‚” she told Daily Sun.
“Acting as a coloured woman is incredible. I feel we are misrepresented and made to look a certain way. I represent all the other coloureds that look just like me‚” she added.
Altovise‚ who has also been cast in a new American drama series called Blood Drive‚ also had a small role in SABC3 soapie Isidingo‚ in addition to taking part in some theatre productions.
Speaking to City Press previously‚ Altovise opened up about landing a role on US film The Other Side‚ revealing that it didn’t come without any obstacles.
“It wasn’t all smooth sailing but landing a movie with America’s best actors was the best thing that ever happened to my acting career‚” she explained.
