The new season of fan-favourite Idol SA returns this Sunday, with the addition of a new vibrant judge.

Veteran dance choreographer and TV personality Somizi Mhlongo joins the anticipated new season of Idol SA when it debuts simultaneously on Mzansi Magic and M-Net on 12 July at 17:00.

While Unathi Msengana is noted to fans as the heart of the show, Gareth Cliff as the soul and Randall Abrahams as the brutally honest one, Somizi tells us that he will be “the sunshine” of the show.

“I bring the light, the spark and the energy.” Somizi quips.

Furthermore, Somizi elaborates on what fans can expect him to bring to the household trio judging panel and how this new venture has impacted his life.

“The fans can expect to be entertained. I will also bring my personality and honesty to the judging panel, but as the entertainer I am, be prepared to be entertained!” Somizi points out.

"It’s has been an amazing ride. I enjoy working with the judges, the talent and let’s not forget the horrible singers – I so enjoy the horrible singers!”

So what can fans expect to see on the first episode?

Mzansi Magic teases that among the slate of performers in the first episode is a former drama student who entered the competition as his female alter-ego; the handsome son of a famous South African musician; a singer-songwriter who busks to make a living; a young man who supports his entire family; and an ecstatic Idols fan who has a big crush on presenter ProVerb.
