Trevor Noah sealed his big American takeover by strutting his stuff on one of the most coveted red carpets in the world.

The comedian who will replace Jon Stewart on The Daily Show scored an invitation to the Costume Institute Gala, popularly known as the Met Gala, at New York's Metropolitan Museum of Art.

The nod from the goddess of fashion and Vogue magazine editor, Anna Wintour, who organises the show, cemented Noah's place in the firmament of American show business.

This year's event celebrated the China: Through the Looking Glass exhibition and was co-chaired by actress Jennifer Lawrence and Wintour, among others.

At the high-fashion event, Noah wore a black-and-white Ralph Lauren tux as he hobnobbed with US superstars such as John Legend and his wife Chrissy Teigen. Also there were, Beyonce, Kanye West, Madonna and Rihanna.
