LIFE has been good to Lloyd Cele. Since falling short of winning Idols SA in 2010 he's made good on his promise to keep working hard.

He now sports a slimmer body after shedding almost 20kg. What's more? Cele and his wife Janice, are expecting their third child, a girl they have already named Torah Africa.

The 31-year-old award winning singer and producer broke the happy news to Sowetan after his pulsating guest performance on the Idols SA stage last Sunday.

The couple have two other children, Levy, 5, and Zoey, 2.

The release of Cele's third album, Grey Matter, two weeks ago came hot on the heels of his two successful offerings One and No Limits, which earned him a SAMA trophy and four nominations respectively.

The first single of his new album has become the theme song for the TV glamour show Top Billing.

Cele further reveals that negotiations were at an advanced stage with an Atlanta, US, recording company to release his album overseas, but could not dwell much on the subject except to brag that "they love what I do".

Cele's dedication has paid off and he is one of few Idols alumni continuing to profit from the exposure from the talent-search show.

In 2010 after his successful Idols run, Cele couldn't secure a recording deal with Universal, the recording company which sponsors Idols SA. This spurred him on in the face of adversity.

"I'm very grateful I took my own route. It inspired me to work harder and open my own business and to pursue my dream."

Today Cele enjoys the returns of the investment he made with his R250000 share from Idols SA. He recorded his debut album, One, which sold well and was critically acclaimed.

"It was a brave and scary move but I am glad it worked out perfectly.

"The third album is very creative, I stepped out of my comfort zone and I know what I want to do and it is going to change people's lives and mindsets about how they do music."

Cele says he drew inspiration from the 20 years of SA's democracy and the passing of Nelson Mandela.

"I felt compelled that this was my time as a musician to carry on the legacy through music," he says
