Legendary musician, Sibongile Khumalo sets the standard with a pre Jazz concert leading to the annual Standard Bank Joy of Jazz.

In a pre celebration of her 57th birthday, South Africa’s ‘first lady of song’ born on Heritage Day, 24 September will be getting down to jazzy tunes.

The celebration will feature performances from the likes of Sipho ‘Hotstix’ Mabuse, Kabomo Vilakazi, and Mimi Nthenjwa at Montecasino on 20 September.

Award winning Khumalo, whose talents range from opera to jazz; has always been grounded by traditional and folk music.

As a Standard Bank Young Artist (SBYA) winner for music in 1993, her career in music has taken another level of Jazz over the years.

The Joy of Jazz festival takes place at the Sandton Convention Centre from September 25 to 27.
