Rihanna has been granted a three-year restraining order against a fan who broke into the home next door to her property in the mistaken belief it was hers.

The 'Stay' singer - who is currently on her 'Diamond' world tour - secured legal protection against Steveland Barrow, who was arrested in February after breaking into the property next to her Los Angeles home, which he mistook for the 25-year-old popstar's house.

According to TMZ Barrow has been ordered to stay at least 100 yards away from Rihanna for the next three years.

In her request for the restraining order, Rihanna revealed she feared for her safety after the male fan told police officers that he was invited to her home and allegedly slept in a bed, which he wrongly believed to be hers. He also stole some items from the house. Rihanna previously had a restraining order against her on/off boyfriend Chris Brown after he beat her in 2009. The couple reunited late last year and she recently opened up about why she decided to give their relationship another chance.

She said: ''Of course everybody has their opinion about him, because of what he's done. That will always be there. But he made a mistake, and he's paid his dues. He's paid so much. And I know that's not a place he would ever want to go back to. And sometimes people need support and encouragement, instead of ridicule and criticism and bashing.''
