RACE, social status and tradition are in the spotlight in this proudly South African movie. The 90-minute romantic comedy exposes the country's race issues in a way we can all relate to and laugh about.

Fanie Fourie (Eduan van Jaarsveldt) is an Afrikaner living in a mansion with his mother.

Dinky Magubane (Zethu Dlomo) is a Zulu woman who lives in a small township home with her father.

Fanie is an artist, who designs cars that resemble African animals, working from a garage, while Dinky works in a casino, but is also an aspiring entrepreneur.

The love story of Fanie and Dinky begins when the two strike a deal.

Dinky will attend Sarel's wedding - Fanie's Afrikaans pop star brother played by Chris Chameleon - and he will pretend to be her boyfriend to try and stop her father from pestering her about marriage.

Almost immediately after they shake on it, the wedding brings out the couple's similarities, but ends bitterly for Dinky when Fanie's family cannot resist making her feel out of place.

The meeting with Dinky's father, played by Jerry Mofokeng, is an encounter that is both hilarious and offensive.

Somehow both youngsters manage to laugh things off and overlook the hostility they face, and plan their first official date.

But, the pleasure of watching two people in love is short-lived and disturbed by the realities that interracial couples face.

Fanie and Dinky's challenges include family politics (Fanie is kicked out of his mother's house), while Dinky's jealous, rich ex-boyfriend is on a mission to sabotage their relationship.

Despite all this love grows between Fanie and Dinky and lobola is considered.

Despite the challenges, the tale has a happy ending.

The movie is inspired by Nape a Motana's novel of the same title, first written in Sepedi then translated into English.

The movie is a great South African chick flick and will start showing in cinemas next month.

The film is also the first from Once Upon a Story, a script development initiative headed by Paul Raleigh and Janine Eser, which aims to take great South African stories to the big screen and the world.
