Chicken soup does help cure colds

CHICKEN soup is said to cure a cold, but is this just an old wives tale?

No.

Research has shown that chicken soup has properties that inhibit neutrophils (the white blood cells that fight off bacteria in inflamed cells). These cells create mucus, but often in excess, that leads to the runny nose and general feeling of sickness when you have a cold.

The chicken soup slows down production of mucus, allowing some to drain away.
