Pu2ma and Noxolo rock the lounge

AFRO-JAZZ singer Pu2ma was a marvel to watch at the Native Rhythm Music Lounge in Rosebank, Johannesburg, on Sunday.

Pu2ma performed for a select crowd made up of mainly artists including Wanda Baloyi, Gloria Bosman and Nkulee Dube, who later joined her in an impromptu jam session.

The audience was enthralled by her earthy, soulful repertoire from her first album, Hide and Seek.

Native Rhythm boss Sipho Sithole announced that his label has just signed the former back-up singer as solo artist.

But before Pu2ma went on stage to do what she knows best, the podium was taken over by Noxolo Radebe, who demonstrated that she no longer needs to be a backing vocalist for a number of musicians, such as ragga rapper Nkulee Dube.

Her performance brought Dube to tears. The daughter of late reggae icon Lucky Dube was emotionally overcome by the maskandi and Afro-pop sounds of this new musical find. Noxolo, who has been a backing singer mainly for Native Rhythm, has also just been signed by the label as a solo artist.
