Take part in Soweto theatre

Once completed and fully running, the theatre will be a multi-purpose performing arts centre for theatre productions, dance, music, film and community gatherings

THEATRE producers, scriptwriters and other service providers interested in getting involved in the Soweto Theatre must register by noon on February 14. And those interested in getting involved in the Promusica Theatre must register by noon today.

The Soweto Theatre is about to be completed and the City of Johannesburg has since last week been calling for interested parties to register.

Those especially targeted by the Soweto and the Promusica theatres are community-based performing arts projects and other professionals in the theatre sector.

People can select one or both of the following:

* Attending a policy workshop to contribute towards a policy for the theatre;

* Submitting proposals for theatre programmes, productions and/or services.

The Soweto Theatre is built in the high-density, mixed-use Jabulani CBD, said Promusica, whose management is in the interim also managing the Soweto Theatre.

Once completed and fully running, the theatre will be a multi-purpose performing arts centre for theatre productions, dance, music, film and community gatherings.

Known as the "cultural heart" of Soweto, the centre includes the Jabulani Amphitheatre, parkland, public art and other amenities.

Interested parties will be supplied with a Declaration of Interest document, to be submitted together with a detailed proposal.

You can contact the theatre's office by either e-mail or telephone. E-mail SaskiaG@promusica.co.za or Innocent@promusica.co.za or telephone 011-674-1357/8.
