IF YOU are a sexually liberated type and you think using a vibrator is not okay, think again.

Fat Black Women Sing is back, once again bringing a sexually charged show that will change perceptions about fat women and sex.

Nine sexy and full-figured women relate a beautiful story of how members of the female species are sometimes judged according to their weight and beauty. It celebrates the female body while reclaiming and affirming its sexuality.

Those who have seen The Vagina Monologues believe this show is a Zulu version of it.

After a successful run in 2009 at the Market Theatre in Johannesburg, Fat Black Women Sing returns to the stage with a different name and a bigger cast.

Napo Masheaneand Fat Black Women Sing will be on at the Market Theatre Lab, Newtown, from December 8 to 11.

Written by Masheane, a poet, the show is also about realities such as the subjugation, even abuse, of women in the name of culture or tradition.

"This time around, the show returns with me part of it. The storyline has not changed but it is told through slam poetry and music," she says.

"It tackles various issues affecting women. There are poems that touch on 16 Days of Activism, humanity, what women go through. The show is about how these big girls have struggled to find their voice in the community because of their weight."

The celebrated poet says she has increased the cast from five to 14 and included poetry and a live band.

Masheane adds that she is using the show to launch her second book, Fat Songs for My Girlfriends.

The book will be released soon. I dedicate the book to all the sisters, she says.
