Gospel diva soars with new album

WINNIE Mashaba has been ZCC gospel music arbiter, consistently pushing the gospel genre into new melodic territory.

She has captured gospel audiences and won the admiration of music lovers everywhere with her spine-chilling vocals.

In her new 14-song set, Modimo O Na Le Nna, she pulls from her usual sprawling musical palette to mould her message. Her praise and dynamic storytelling are brought to life through this album, which showcases her talent and ability to turn each performance into an experience. Modimo O Na Le Nna is a fitting title for Mashaba's new CD.

"This album is a special event for my fans. On the album I look back and thank God for my journey and the fans he has given me. It is also a thank you to God for protecting me and for my achievements over the years," says Mashaba, who has just extended her event management business by adding a travel agency.

The spiritually uplifting, musically inventive follow-up to her acclaimed Go Tseba Jehova takes over from where the previous one left and Mashaba says it will surely captivate and bring audiences to their knees.

The title track, which also happens to be her favourite song, is an outstanding tune that gives you an adrenaline rush and keeps you on the edge of your seat. The song's driving rhythm helps to spotlight her amazing musical range.

Also notable is Folang Malwatsi, which touches the soul.

Her dynamic, distinctive and captivating voice carries power and her ability to tap into the human experience and emotions has made her a favourite with people who sometimes stop her and share their problems with her.

"My music has created that kind of trust between my fans and I. I have people of all ages coming to me for advice on personal things. It's a humbling experience for me and serves as an inspiration for me in making music."

This album will be special for Mashaba fans as it showcases an eclectic mix of repertoire in a way that only she could pull off.

The title track also shows off her depth as a composer.

More highlights on the album include O Mohau, as well as a striking rendition of Lihle Izulu .

The whole album actually showcases her deft skills as a composer with its heart-warming originals.

Her fans have probably taken notice of her new fabulous and fit look. At the top of her game vocally, Mashaba has also brought her "A" game to her health and fitness agenda. To top this off, she has a new, hotter hairstyle.

After apparently battling with weight issues, she decided to hit the road. "I had to do it for my fans. I feel healthier and more beautiful. Unfortunately, they will never be able to see my hair because I have to keep my head covered all the time. Gospel fans are a very sensitive creed.

"One has to do the right thing all the time. I can't walk around in jeans. I have to be sensitive to my fans and their beliefs," she concluded with her trademark bright smile.
