Rock music and comedy to die for

ONE of the most interesting and commercially successful overseas musicals is coming to South Africa

The internationally acclaimed UK production of Vampires Rock is on its way to Emperors Palace, Johannesburg, in September. The incredibly successful musical comedy has sold more than a million tickets since 2005.

Vampires Rock has been performed more than 200 times in the UK to sell-out audiences.

The show is set in the year 2030 and stars Steve Steinman as the supremely evil Baron von Rockula, owner of the Live and Let Die Club. With his unique tongue in cheek humour, great songs and a powerful cast, he captures the audiences imagination.

Aspiring singer Pandora (Emily Clark) arrives to audition for the position of resident vocalist, but little does she know that the only job on offer is to be the eternal bride of the evil Von Rockula, to be his queen and live forever.

He, his band - The Lost Boys - and his sidekick Stringfellow (Mike Taylor), try to convince Pandora to lose her soul to rock and roll.

The musical has been hailed by rock's royalty - Brian May of Queen, Paul Crook of Meat Loaf and Eddie Ojeda of rock legends Twisted Sister as a show like no other. With a twist of rock and a hint of comedy, it is jam-packed with the greatest anthems eanyone has come to know and love, guaranteed to keep everyone on their feet.

The spellbinding cast and "un-dead" musicians blast their way through the greatest anthems ever, including songs from Meat Loaf, Rainbow, AC/DC, Alice Cooper, The Rolling Stones, Bon Jovi, Queen, White Snake, Led Zeppelin, Joan Jett, Bonnie Tyler and Cher.

Vampires will rock you in the aisles (or on your knees with your air guitar above your head!). Together with an amazing stage set, beautiful dancers and Steinman's famously powerful vocals and sense of humour, this rock spectacular is not to be missed.

See it at the Emperors Palace Theatre of Marcellus from 7 to 10.
