Music and culture to rock Mogale festival

WHILE many music fans are looking forward to the Mogale Arts Festival,they should also take note of the cultural carnival to be held before the music segment.

This entertainment-packed programme will see many seasoned groups pleasing fans around Mogale City .

The organisers say the cultural carnival will speak against ethnic and cultural conflict and bring various communities together.

The Mogale Arts Festival brings diverse cultures together at the Cradle of Humankind. Tomorrow, on day one of the festival, Mogale City will showcase its cultural heritage.

Residents of Krugersdorp, Kagiso, Muldersdrift, Munsieville, Tarlton, Hekpoort, Magaliesburg and Azaadville and the industrial areas of Chamdor, Factoria and Boltonia will present a parade spectacle of diversity.

The carnival parade begins at 10am and ends with a live performance at midday in the Krugersdorp city centre.

The Gauteng Cultural Umbimbi has organised the Mogale Arts Festival Carnival this year.

This is an organisation mandated by the Gauteng sport art and culture department to address ethnic and cultural conflict in the townships and hostels around the province.

This initiative has been very successful since it was launched and today most communities acknowledge each other with respect.

The carnival features the Amatshitshi Esizwe Cultural Organisation for the first time this year.

The theme is don't have multiple sexual partners, be faithful to one partner and use condoms if you are sexually active.

Some of the groups to be featured are: Sonwabisi Traditional Groups, Eskangwane, Izigqi, Amakhamduze, Via Volcano, Via Berkkasdal, Amatshitshi Esizwe Cultural Organisation, iZintombi zesimanjemanje and Pomoroy High Stars, Green Lovers, Themba Boys, Naughty Boys, General Singers, Oswenka, Onobuhle, African Theatre Dance Group, Ukhahlamba Zulu Dance, Banna bamakgopo, Sebueng Itumeleng, Mamoeletsi Little Theatre, Mahlambandlopfu Music, African Bombers, Vukuzibuse skhomazi, Isigqi Sesimanje, Izamambo, Isango, Abafana bamawosi, Mzantsi Zulu Dance and Codesa.

Other entertaining activities will include:

  • Stilt walkers;
  • Chinese dragons;
  • Jugglers;
  • Contortionists;
  • Acrobats;
  • An elaborate Brazilian float and other floats on the streets of Mogale City.

The organisers encourage members of the community to make a date tomorrow morning and be part of these festivities where they will see and hear groups from many of the different areas that make up Mogale City and certainly have a good time.

On Saturday Hugh Masekela, Professor, Big Nuz, Ringo, Simphiwe Dana, L'vovo, Tira, DJ Cleo, Tkzee, Joyous Celebration, Ihashi Elimhlophe, Silas Fuphe, Keke, Judith Sephuma, Caiphus Semenya and Deborah Fraser Theo, will keep audiences enthralled from 11am to 10 pm at the Ngonyama Lion Lodge.
