Ringo promises a night to remember

FAMED musician Ringo Madlingozi has over the years picked up a significant following among South African music fans - and a significant number of his fans are definitely female.

Without a doubt these are the fans who will not miss his Pre-Valentine Night With Ringo concert, scheduled for the Bassline in Newtown on January 29.

Widely respected for his trademark Xhosa ballads, the artist will not disappoint. At least, that is what he has promised. For this reason, if you are hungry for love and need some nudging towards the love scene, you should not miss a night with Ringo.

The organisers of the gig say: We urge you to bring a partner because when this man starts belting out his singalongs you will definitely feel the need to hold on to someone and that is only appropriate when you are intimately close to that someone," the organisers say.

Ringo said: "I promise my fans an unforgettable evening. I guarantee a 100percent electric show with my band.

"So I appeal to my fans who are planning to come to the show to be emotionally prepared for a roller-coaster ride as I will be belting out hit after hit from all my albums."

After establishing himself as a brand with seven studio albums, the award-winning Ringo has produced for world-renowned legends, including the late Miriam Makeba.

Since his 1996 debut album, Vukani, he has been true to his style of music and has remained loyal to and rooted in his authentic Xhosa sound with an international appeal.

A chance encounter with acclaimed producer and head of Islands Records Chris Blackwell helped shape the career of this former member of Peto and Gecko Moon.

"Blackwell chided me for not sticking to what I know best - my people, my language and my culture.

"It was as if a bright light had been turned on in my mind and this led directly to the recording of my debut album," Ringo would later reveal.
