Kwandengezi weekend fun

THE KwaZulu-Natal township of Kwandengezi will be abuzz with cultural activities this weekend from Friday.

KwaNdengezi's Sports, Arts and Culture Festival features film, poetry, comedy, karate, jazz, kwaito, hip-hop, fine arts, fashion and a soccer tournament.

The three-day event will take place from October 1 to 3 at various venues in KwaNdengezi. Organised by Huge Entertainment, the event will give local fashion designers such as Pinky Dlamini and Gugu Mazibuko a chance to showcase their creations and launch their names.

In the line-up are DJ Bongz, Amawele, Pascal Mabaso, Madluphuthu, Angels of God, Thembisile Ntaka, Sipho Mdumbe, Zwe Ngubane, Gogo, Malini and Avante.

Vusi Leeuw, the founder of the event, said: "We would like the youth to experience how it feels to share the stage with their role models. We feel this is important in inspiring them to achieve their career goals. It will instil a sense of purpose in their lives and also teach them that dreams do come true."

"I felt I had to do something about the township's horrible situation. I was disturbed to see the number of youth caught in the web of drug abuse, so I had this idea. I want to give the youth something to look forward to." Entrance is free; donated canned food, blankets, clothes and books will reach the needy.
