Moshito starts today

ANYONE interested in the music industry should remember that the Moshito 2010 starts today.

Taking place at Museum Africa, Newtown, Johannesburg, the yearly conference ends on Friday.

Copyright, lack of recording opportunities - particularly for musicians in rural areas - medical aids and loans will be tackled.

Also in the spotlight will be the opportunities or lack thereof for local artists during the World Cup. Other topics that are bound to get musicians talking is why it is so difficult to get music videos aired on television.

Digital music trends again make up a significant part of the Moshito agenda.

The programme is jam-packed with sessions designed to impart practical, up-to-date information to newcomers to the music industry. These include a music business starter kit session, a session on making your money stretch, a Sars compliance session and how to build a solid hip-hop career.

Briefings by South Africa's key music industry organisations will give delegates an opportunity to get the lowdown on how to move their careers forward.

Not to be missed is Steve Navin, chief executive of the Music Publishers Association, which represents music publishing in the UK.

Also contributing significantly to the conference are locals Brian Currin, Thabiso Khati, Yoel Kenan, Jacob Sibiya, DJ Christos, Charlie Beuthin, Deon Maas and Eugène Ulman from Zimbabwe.

As usual, Moshito also features an expo and free live show s.
