Capitec gets 500th modern branch

CAPITEC Bank opened its 500th branch at The Morning Glen Mall, in Sandton, northern Joburg, yesterday.

The new branch is a big milestone since the bank came into the market in 2001 and presented a new look with less security, branch manager at the front and clients able to see what tellers have on computer screens.

The front of the branch is open like some retail stores and will be rolled out nationwide.

Capitec has became the country's fastest growing bank with paperless banking. It has more than 3.5-million clients.

Speaking at the opening, Capitec Bank chief executive Riaan Stassen said the public asked questions about filling in forms, not seeing what the teller had on computer screens, long queues and confusing fee structures.

"We live in the 21st century and technology should make access to banking easier for clients. Banks must take ownership of helping clients manage their financial lives better," Stassen said.

He said the 500th branch design was aimed at achieving this by providing an experience for clients that took banking into a new realm.

"We want to give clients options that empower them to make the best choices. Our new front-end screen flow, due in July, will do this.

"Top management must be regularly available in the forecourt of branches to better understand how to address the customers service requirements and needs," Stassen said.
