Winnie Mashaba teams up with cellphone firm

LIMPOPO gospel singer Winnie Mashaba has teamed up with giant mobile network Vodacom to launch a branded starter pack to reach out to her fans

The starter pack goes on sale next month, according to Mashaba.

She said Vodacom had approached her after realising that she was very popular and had been doing "an excellent job empowering rural communities".

"I've been involved in a number of programmes to uplift the people of Limpopo," she said. "This is just another way of motivating them."

The deal, according to Mashaba, will run for five years with the option of an extension.

Mashaba, who turns 30 on April 1, already has 10 albums to her name. The youthful singer will release her 11th album sometime this year.

For many years Mashaba was based in Gauteng but decided to return to her home in Limpopo in order to plough back to her community.

"I wanted to dispel the notion that everything happens in Gauteng. Home is where the heart is and there's nothing that can stop me from achieving my dreams here," she said.

Mashaba will also mentor aspirant artists in the province. She said her new studio will be ready by Easter.

"I also want to encourage artists from the province never to lose hope and to seek advice wherever possible," Mashaba said.
