Cape Town City coach Benni McCarthy and his Bidvest Wits opposite Gavin Hunt will go toe to toe for the second time in nine days when their charges meet in the MTN8 semifinal first leg tie at Cape Town Stadium today.

McCarthy, who was once a starry-eyed teenage striker under Hunt's tutelege more than two decades ago, beat his mentor in a league match when his charges came out 1-0 victors away in Johannesburg.

He went on to win his second league match at home against Platinum Stars while Hunt was held to a 2-2 draw away at Free State Stars.

Former Wits striker Letsie Koapeng is also looking forward to the clash after suffering the biggest heartbreak of his career when he was dumped by Wits in 2013.

"Wits was the team that took me from nothing and made me who I am. So, when things didn't work out, it was the lowest point in my career," Koapeng told Sunday World.

"At the time I felt disappointed. Gavin [coach Hunt] said he wanted me to find game time elsewhere."

The 25-year-old failed to compete against experienced attackers the club had just signed and was shipped out on loan to Bloemfontein Celtic.

What followed was more anguish as the Lenasia-born attacker ended up also becoming a reject at Celtic after the arrival of coach Ernst Middendorp when he replaced Clinton Larsen and later at Orlando Pirates where his career just failed to pick up in 2015.

Koapeng got his break when Cape Town City came calling in January after his eye-catching performances for Stellenbosch FC in the NFD.

A goal on debut in the 3-0 thrashing of Highlands Park in February was the first sign that City had found a gem and the team offered him an extended contract until 2020.

After opening his scoring account for the season in the 3-1 demolition of Platinum Stars in midweek, Koapeng is relishing the clash against Wits. Despite the history, Koapeng holds no grudges against anybody at Wits and will not be out for revenge.
