Platinum Stars footballers Mbongeni “Kati” Mzimela‚ Ndumiso Mabena‚ and goalkeeper coach Stephane Ekakala were reportedly involved in a car accident near the club’s Royal Bafokeng Sports campus base on Saturday night.

Kickoff.com reports that Ekalala has since been discharged from hospital and is currently on the mend‚ while Mzimela and Mabena managed to escape injury despite having both their cars written off.

“I believe he is recovering well and is out of hospital. I am going to see him now‚” Stars head coach Cavin Johnson told the football publication.

It is understood that the soccer players were following each other in a convoy after returning from their match with Free State Stars on Saturday afternoon when the accident occurred.

This perilous incident comes after Ajax Cape Town player Cecil Lolo’s death‚ who was killed in a car crash‚ as well as Maritzburg United’s Mondli Cele who died in January this year.
