CASTER Semenya, Cameron van der Burgh and Bridget Hartley are among the nominees for the 2013 Gauteng Sport Awards announced at a function at Emperors Palace in Kempton Park last night.

Semenya, winner of a silver medal at the 2012 London Olympics in the 800m event, has been nominated in two major categories - sportswoman of the year and sports personality of the year.

Also in the sports personality category are swimmer Van der Burgh and Paralympian Samkelo Radebe.

Semenya was nominated with canoeist Hartley and rugby's Bonakele Sibiya.

Other nominees include former Banyana Banyana coach Fran Hilton-Smith, wheelchair basketball star Lucas Sithole, wheelchair tennis ace Kgaothatso Montjane, John Wright [hockey] and Paul Jackson [rowing].

Absa Premiership side University of Pretoria are in the most promising team category after qualifying for the MTN8 in their maiden season in the Premier Soccer League.

Other nominees are the Blue Bulls Under-21 side and UP-Tuks. In a new category, soccer supporters Thulani Ngcobo, Pinky Moseme and Itumeleng Mashele were nominated for the sport fan of the year award.

Provincial MEC for sport Lebogang Maile said the winners will be announced on June 29.
