THE local fight fraternity will follow live television action with keen interest on Sunday when Thomas "Tommy Gun" Oosthuizen bids for the second defence of his IBO super middleweight title in the US.

SuperSport 2 announced yesterday that it will broadcast the fight live from 4.30am.

The left-handed champion, who has been in the US for three weeks with trainer Harold Volbrecht preparing for the fight, will defend against highly rated American Aaron Pryor Jnr in Mississippi.

Oosthuizen is yet to taste defeat after 16 fights.

He last fought in June when he recorded the first defence of his title against William Gare at Emperors Palace.

Oosthuizen has 15 wins with 11 stoppages and a draw.

His promoter Rodney Berman and Golden Gloves Promotions publicist Brian Mitchell will be at ringside.

Pryor is the son of the legendary Aaron "Hawk" Pryor who held both the WBA and IBF junior welterweight titles in the 1990s.

He last fought in May when he outpointed Librado Andrade over 10 rounds and boasts the same number of stoppages as Oosthuizen from 16 victories, against three losses.

Their fight will be the main supporting bout to the IBF welterweight title bout between champion Jan Zaveck and Andre Berto. These bouts will be televised on HBO, the US's biggest cable network.

Zaveck won the title with a stunning third-round knockout of defending champion Isaac Hlatshwayo at Wembley Arena in 2009.

l South Africa's internationally-recognised boxing administrators Peter Ngatane and Alfred Buqwana have been appointed to the executive of the African Boxing Union, the continental governing body.

They were appointed at the recent ABU annual convention in Lusaka, Zambia.

Houcine Houchi, a Tunisian based in France, was appointed president, while Ngatane will be first vice-president.

Ngatane was also appointed as chairperson of the medical committee of the union.

Buqwana is vice-president of the ring officials' committee.

The ABU is affiliated to the World Boxing Council and it paved the way for Thulani Malinga and Dingaan Thobela to fight for WBC titles.

The WBC has just opened its doors for two South African fighters, Gideon Buthelezi and Simphiwe Vetyeka to fight for the junior flyweight and super bantamweight belts.

These two fighters, whose skills are honed by respected trainer Elias "Mr Fantastic" Tshabalala, fight exclusively for Berman.
