Leopards on the prowl

BLACK Leopards are venturing into the transfer market in search of six quality players to ensure they sustain their Premiership status.

"The need for six players was presented to us this week by coach Sunday Chidzambwa as part of our plan for the PSL campaign," said Leopards chairperson David Thidiela.

The Limpopo outfit's management plans to sign two defenders, two midfielders and two strikers.

"We agree with the coach that there is an urgent need to beef up the team with quality players, we have already started looking around for the players," Thidiela said.

"The coach has gone back home to Zimbabwe on a short holiday and we expect him back in Polokwane on July 12 to start with pre-season training. Our plan is to have all six players by then.

"We want to make challenging for titles a habit - gone are the days where Leopards will be in the Premiership just to add to the numbers. The only way for us to reward the people of Limpopo for rallying behind the team is to win titles."

Leopards returned to the Premiership two weeks ago after beating Bay United 3-1 in the platinum play-offs in Thohoyandou.

"Our sponsors (MTN) have been wonderful to us, they went to the wilderness with us and are still supportive."

Thidiela is encouraged by the recognition of their players by U-23 coach Shakes Mashaba, who gave Rodney Ramagalela a run when the squad beat Zimbabwe 2-0.
