Bwalya sees return to glory

COULD a new generation of Zambian football dominance be about to start?

That was the question on Sunday as the Zambian national Under-20 team emphatically defeated Namibia by 4-1 at the University of Gaborone, to defend their Cosafa Metropolitan Under-20 title.

After the young Zambians had completely overwhelmed Ricardo Mannetti's side, president of the Zambian football association Kalusha Bwalya enthused that perhaps Zambia was on its way to recapturing the glory days of the early 1990s before the air crash that killed the entire national team.

"We are hoping for the best from these boys - we have made sure that we take them on different training camps, and I am happy that the results are slowly beginning to show," Bwalya said.

While the Zambians were always going to be among the favourites to lift this trophy, they showed their class and continuously improved, ending the tournament having conceded just three times and scored nine times.
