Fine policing

POSSIBLY jarred by two housebreaking incidents involving high-profile police personalities last weekend, the public might well have heaved a collective sigh of relief over the swiftness of the arrests.

That nine people were arrested in connection with the burglary at the home of Gauteng provincial police commissioner Mzwandile Petros in a matter of days, is a sign of sterling detective work.

The burglars struck last Friday - a day before a break-in at former national police commissioner Jackie Selebi's home.

That said, it is imperative that the police routinely replicate such successes in all cases.

Such prompt police reaction must also apply to Joe Soap, who sometimes has to contend with such issues as a missing docket or a case that has gone cold because of a perhaps unwieldy workload.
