300 couples marry in mass 12.12.12 wedding in Philippines

Three hundred couples were married in a mass wedding in the Philippines Wednesday, an auspicious date that would only happen again in 89 years.

The wedding, marked by triple 12s as it occurred on December 12, 2012, was held at a shopping mall and was sponsored by the vice mayor of the Manila suburban city of Paranaque.

"Today, 12.12.12, is supposed to be a lucky day," a staff member at the vice mayor's office said when asked why the date was chosen.

The youngest couple was 19 years old while the oldest was 62, said the staff member who declined to be named because she was not authorized to speak to the media.

According to numerologists, the triple-digit date alignment would only recur in 89 years on January 01, 2101.
