Paris school hostage taker in custody

Police say an armed man who took hostages at a school complex has been taken into custody.

It was not immediately clear how he was taken, but police said all hostages were released unhurt. Officials spoke on condition of anonymity because of police rules.

The hostage-taking began early morning at a complex that includes nursery and elementary schools. Children were initially among those held captive, and one parent was held for several hours.

The man who was armed with a gun took the hostages in Vitry-sur-Seine, a commuter town with residents from a variety of socio-economic classes.
