Wits fees protest turns violent

Violence broke out at the University of the Witwatersrand main campus during #FeesMustFall protests on Tuesday afternoon.

Students who were protesting at the university since Monday started throwing stones at security guards who blocked the entrance to the great hall.

Thousands of students marched to the campus on Tuesday morning after Higher Education Minister Blade Nzimande announced that universities will determine increases for individual varsities.

Students at other universities‚ including the University of Cape Town‚ joined protests on Tuesday. — TMG Digital
