The bail application of the Thulsie twins — accused of multiple terrorism-related activities — is to be argued through affidavits.

Brandon-Lee and Tony-Lee Thulsie were appeared on Tuesday morning in the Johannesburg Magistrates Court for their formal bail application.

They were arrested earlier this month in anti-terror raids carried out by the Hawks.

The twins’ lawyer‚ advocate Annelene van der Heever‚ said that they would be submitting “lengthy” affidavits from both brothers instead of calling them to the stand.

She said they would simply hand in the affidavits and that they would not be read in.

During a brief recess‚ state prosecutor advocate Chris MacAdam said they had yet to make a decision on whether they would simply hand in affidavits or call one of the investigating officers to the stand.

He said they would wait to see what was in the accused’s affidavits.

The brothers face three terror-related charges‚ including planning to detonate explosive devices outside US and Jewish interests in South Africa and twice attempting to join the Islamic State in Syria.

Smiling at their mother‚ the twins waved at family before taking their position in the dock.

Both wearing spectacles and religious garb‚ they looked straight ahead ignoring the investigating officers as Magistrate Pieter du Plessis addressed their lawyer as proceedings for the bail hearing were laid out.
