During a period that was characterised by high police activity through stop-and-searches, intelligence-driven night raids, informer activity and community engagement, by Sunday morning Diepsloot police had arrested seventy (70) suspects for various crimes.

During the early hours of Friday morning, three men aged between 21 and 32 were caught for possession of two unlicensed handguns, ammunition and suspected stolen cash.

Two of the suspects were caught during a raid in extension two. The third suspects was arrested in extension seven, where the cash was seized.

Both intelligence-driven raids netted a handgun and ammunition each.

It is believed that one of the handgun was robbed from a security guard in Cosmos City, near Honeydew.

The three suspects will be charged separately with unlawful possession of firearm and ammunition.

The remainder of the suspects were caught for offences like, public drinking, possession of dagga, business robbery, rape and murder.

While our officers spent sleepless nights hunting for wanted suspects, others ensured that the two suspects who were caught for the alleged murder of a 17-year-old boy at a tavern in extension twelve, have their day in court.

The two men appeared briefly in the Randburg Magistrate’s Court on Friday morning. Their case was postponed to the 20 of May 2016.

The rest of the suspects whose court appearance is pending, are also expected in the same court by Tuesday.
