MEC for Community Safety Sizakele Nkosi-Malobane, announced the names of the 10 victims of the bus crash that occured in the Free State.
The deceased were on a bus carrying ANC volunteers from Ekurhuleni. The bus rolled several times on the N1 between Winburg and Kroonstad, at least 59 people were injured.
The ANC and other political parties have since expressed their condolences and the Road Accident Fund has pledged to help families of the victims.
Malobane confirmed that there were only 10 fatalities in the accident.
"I know there has been confusion about the number of people that have passed on. We can now officially confirm that only ten people have passed away, five female and five male. All of them are adults." she said
The names of the deceased are as follows:
Sphamandla Gedle
Simphiwe Nhlapo
Tisetso Ntsilo
Sessie Mtsali
Sana Sibeko
Mpikeleli Malindi
Gugulethu Sithole
Vusi Nkabinde
Daphne Linda
Scelo Kheswa
The ANC will transport all the deceased from the Free State to Germiston mortuary, where all families will have the opportunity to claim their deceased. The ANC urged that only the families be present, although media will be allowed in.
