A suspect caught with mandrax worth R2-milion near Grasmere is to appear in the Protea Magistrates Court on Thursday.

The 33-year-old man was taken into custody following what the Hawks described an “effective and successful joint operation between the Johannesburg K9 and Crime Intelligence Units” on Tuesday.

The team followed the suspect‚ who was driving a rented VW Polo‚ “from Sandton to a filling station in Grasmere where he was waiting to make the transaction”.

“Police stopped and searched his vehicle and recovered two boxes full of drugs‚” the Hawks said.
