Mbombo to meet hospital over sexual assault victim being turned away

The Western Cape’s minister of health described as “abhorrent” and “unacceptable” the alleged turning away of a four-year-old sexual assault victim and her mother by a hospital.

Dr Nomafrench Mbombo will on Wednesday hold “an urgent meeting” with the management of Paarl Hospital as well as meet with the child’s family.

“I am shocked and appalled by reports alleging that a mother and her daughter‚ a sexual assault victim‚ were turned away from Paarl Hospital in the past week‚” Mbombo said.

“This conduct is abhorrent‚ unacceptable and falls far short of the Western Cape government’s vision for providing caring‚ person centric medical care which respects the dignity of our clients.”

“In a country where rape and rape culture are so prevalent‚ we cannot allow ourselves to become part of this problem and fail the most vulnerable members of society who rely on us.”
