Alleged rapist father's case postponed to next month

The community of Eldorado Park was disappointed to hear that they will have to wait until next month for the trial of a rape accused to go ahead.

The 48-year-old man who is accused of raping his 11-year-old daughter appeared briefly in a packed Protea Magistrate’s Court in Soweto on Thursday where his case was postponed to next month for further investigation.

The man is facing several charges of rape.

But he has said in an affidavit that the mother of his daughter laid the rape charges against him so that she could have his flat.

Earlier this week the court heard how he would have drug-fuelled orgies in the presence of his daughter.

The man‚ who cannot be named to protect the identity of his daughter‚ has four previous convictions for assault‚ robbery and drug possession.

Outside the court‚ some of the community members‚ who have been following the case‚ said they were disappointed that there would be a delay of more than a month before justice could be served.

“But we understand that there are procedures that must be followed‚ and we know the state will do a great job and lock him up for a long time”‚ said Anita September‚ one of the community members.

The man is due back in court on November 16.
