Woman who wanted to 'punish' her sister is arrested after false rape and theft claims

A fight between sisters has resulted in a potential criminal record hanging over the head of a 35-year-old woman who unwisely chose to involve the police.

The woman last month reported a false case of rape and robbery but is now a suspect in cases of theft‚ defeating the ends of justice and furnishing false statement under oath which is being investigated by Thabong Cluster Family Violence‚ Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit‚ police said in a statement.

She alleged that at about 3.30am on a Sunday morning last month‚ a burglar broke into the house she was sleeping in and raped her‚ before taking her three cellphones and R600 cash. She pointed out a suspect three days later‚ and he was arrested.

But then the sister of the “victim” of the so-called rape and robbery case opened a case of theft against her.

She complained that it was her cellphones that had been stolen‚ and she knew who was responsible.

“…The cell phones (stolen) after the rape are actually with the ‘victim’. In other words the incident that she reported of rape and robbery of cellphones was a fabricated story‚” police said.

“She said she was doing that to punish her sister.”
