A man was shot and killed by police at the PSL match between Kaizer Chiefs and Chippa United at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium on Saturday night (09/05/15).
Chaos erupted following the match when a large number of fans stormed the field.
Police spokesman Captain Johan Rheeder said there was an altercation between a fan and a policeman during the pitch invasion.
“The man tried to take the policeman’s gun and during the scuffle the gun went off and the person was shot‚” Rheeder said.
The unidentified man died on the scene.
An investigation is under way.
