An Afghan soldier opened fire on US contractors, killing three and injuring one, a security official said Friday.

"The incident took place late Thursday in the Kabul military airport," the official said, asking not to be identified.

He said the people killed were "contractors to train and advise Afghan troops."

"The attacker was also shot dead," the security official said.

The international forces in Afghanistan confirmed that a shooting had taken place but gave no details.

Taliban militants claimed responsibility for the attack, saying seven Americans were killed.

About 13,000 foreign troops remain in the country to train and advise Afghan forces, after their combat mission ended last year.
