'Metro chief on murder charge'

Ekurhuleni metro police chief Hlula Msimang was expected to appear in court on Friday on a murder charge, according to a report.

The Independent Police Investigate Directorate (IPID) confirmed that he was facing a murder charge, but would not give more details.

"We finished the investigation. Now it's on the court roll," IPID spokesman Moses Dlamini told the newspaper.

The report said the case was related to a shooting incident in Johannesburg a few months ago.

Mayoral spokesman Zweli Dlamini told the newspaper that Msimang had not been suspended.

"He's at work. He has not been charged with anything," said Dlamini.
