A prosecutor accused of stealing two police crime dockets made his eighth appearance in court on Monday.
After several brief appearances in the Bellville District Court, Jonas Phosoko’s case was transferred to the Commercial Crime Court.
He was formerly based at the Bellville District Court
On Monday, Phosoko, 38, appeared before magistrate Amrith Chabillal, who warned him to appear again in court on April 8.
Phosoko appeared with co-accused Mlahleni Mgingi, 42.
Mgingi, who was accused of possession of 29kg of dagga, allegedly bribed Phosoko to steal a docket.
Phosoko faces five charges: one of corruption, two of theft and two of defeating the ends of justice.
The first theft charge and the first charge of defeating the ends of justice relate to the dagga docket.
The second theft charge and the second charge of defeating the ends of justice relate to a drunk driving docket that went missing and was found at Phosoko’s home.
Mgingi faces three counts: one of corruption, one of theft and one of defeating the ends of justice.
He was arrested in June 2010 on the dagga charge.
It is alleged that Mgingi paid Phosoko a R1,800 bribe to steal and destroy the dagga docket.
As a result of the missing dagga docket, the trial could not proceed as scheduled, and had to be postponed.
