Trucker dies after stone incident

A Cape Town trucker was declared brain dead after being hit in the head by a stone thrown into his vehicle

The Cape Times reported that Gary Stewart, 41, had been on life support after his skull was fractured and he sustained severe brain damage last Wednesday.

The assistant driver was on the N2 when the stone was thrown through his windscreen and hit the back of his head.

Drivers taking part in a national strike by SA Transport and Allied Workers’ Union members were thought to be responsible.

On Monday, the family decided to switch his life support off and donate his organs.

Seven trucks were reportedly torched in Cape Town on Monday, in Gugulethu, Khayelitsha and Philippi, as parties continued negotiations.
